SOCKS4 is a lightweight proxy protocol designed mainly for TCP connections. It does not support UDP traffic or built-in authentication methods, which limits its flexibility compared to newer protocols. While SOCKS4 can still be useful for simple networking tasks and basic proxy routing, it offers lower security and fewer features than SOCKS5.
